If you are after a really fun thriller in the lead-up to Halloween I really recommend picking up Harrow Lake by Kat Ellis 💀
I
received a proof copy of this some months back (pictured in the top
right), took it on a trip to London and became completely hooked. It’s
the perfect summer read and a real page turner with lots of twists and
turns that keep you guessing.
The book is from the perspective
of Lola Nox - a teenager whose dad is the infamous director of cult
film Nightjar, set in the small town of Harrow Lake. The town is filled
with rumours of creepy going-ons and superstitions, magnified by a
cameraman going missing on set during filming.
Following a
brutal attack on her Dad and nowhere else to turn, Lola ends up going to
live with her grandmother who resides in Harrow Lake, the eerie town
now iconic for its setting in Nightjar.
This is such a fun
story with so many twists and turns - from lots of creepy events that
don’t quite add up, characters you don’t know if you can trust, and of
course the sinister Mr Jitters who appears to be stalking her…
This
YA book is a great fun light thriller, and definitely a page turner! I
have left the link in my bio if you want to check it out.
Synopsis
Lola
Nox is the daughter of a celebrated horror filmmaker - she thinks
nothing can scare her. But when her father is brutally attacked in their
New York apartment, she's swiftly packed off to live with a grandmother
she's never met in Harrow Lake, the eerie town where her father's most
iconic horror movie was shot.
The locals are weirdly obsessed
with the film that put their town on the map - and there are strange
disappearances, which the police seem determined to explain away.
And there's someone - or something - stalking Lola's every move.
The
more she discovers about the town, the more terrifying it becomes.
Because Lola's got secrets of her own. And if she can't find a way out
of Harrow Lake, they might just be the death of her...
